today would be the kind of day that i would define as perfect.
the day started with me waking up at half past 3 in the morning, and not being able to get back to sleep; so i decided to get up and get back to work. which was surprisingly relaxing, for the first time in what seems to be an immortals lifetime. you know, like it used to be. needless to say, it didn't take long before my stomach started churning, and urging me to shuffle my tingling feet into the cold-tiled kitchen for a ritual of early morning toast - loving, tender, lavishly dusted cinnamon toast.
bringing my treat with me, i sat back down at my office desk to continue editing. perhaps an hour went by. cute little kid with his mum. you know, the usual stuff - kid grinning toothlessly up at mum. gooey, slimy mis-aimed kisses. mum throwing kid up in air, kid laughing, smiling, giggling drooling. yes yes, it's all very adorable.
i then proceeded to tell myself that someday, that will be me and my little boy. i swallowed my last mouthful of toast and flicked the dust off my plate.
I'm not entirely sure why I do that. in any case, i'm sure my carpet would smell of cinnamon, if i had a good sniff. and wet dogs.

i may have edited for an hour or so. then came the blessed sound of the gas-man's ute, rumbling down my driveway and towards me, bringing the promise of a hot shower closer with every passing second. long, long seconds, might i add. i heard him tinkering. i tried not to peer out the window. and then finally, i heard his ute choke to a start once again, disappearing into the early morning fog, and back into the cold, sleeping world. a world which now could no longer touch me, as i slid into the most incredibly hot shower of my life. after 2 days with no hot water, cold showers, no gas to cook with and nothing but a hot water bottle to comfort my poor little deprived soul, i can honestly say that i appreciate hot water so. much. more. and gas too. but not that kind of gas.
after tiptoeing over the freezing, misty bathroom tiles to my towel, i quickly dried off and decided to take the day off. yep. just take it off. back into the kitchen I went. chocolate, my stomach reminded me. and a peppermint tea. tea and chocolate in hard, i snuggled down into bed beside my gorgeous, drooling semi-concious and lightly snoring husband, dragged the laptop onto my stomach and proceeded to spend the next 16 minutes browsing aimlessly through blog layouts. it didn't take long for my eyes to start drooping lazily, and finally, at around half past 6, i fell back to sleep.
when Xanthe and I woke up again, it was nearly 11am. oh, my beloved sleep-in. it's been too long.
the rest of our day consisted of homemade cafe-style food, blog decorating and creating, tv watching, napping, Fantales, editing, gaming, driving, napping, burning incense for the hell of it, drinking Coke, opening packages from the post office and generally doing nothing. it was fantastic.
it rained. hard, comforting, thick, set-in rain. nothing but love and cozy-fuzzies all day long.
it's a day like today I need more often. these are the days that fully recharge me.

on tonights agenda? perhaps a drive into town, a coke at one of our favourite spots. then a movie curled up in bed. something Disney. with chips and Pizza Shapes.
and a hot shower.
a perfect day.
